Our CIE Italian Tradition Tour

Day 6:  Fri: Monte Cassino & Naples

The next morning we travelled south to visit Monte Cassino, We visited the Abbey at Montecassino which was razed in a World War II battle but subsequently was rebuilt. The road to the top of the mountain was full of hair pin turns which Ed, our bus driver handled beautifully up and down:-)

We then drove to Naples and take a short sightseeing tour by bus before checking into our hotel in the historic city center. We were amazed at the garbage on the streets of Naples. The city close up was very dirty and run down.

But, the views from our room on the 21st floor of the hotel were fantastic and we even saw a fireworks show each night. Not sure what it was about, but it was fun to see.

From what we could see, the only reason people came to Naples was to sleep in a hotel and then be on their way to some other destination. We were warned by our guide NOT to leave the hotel at dark as pick pockets and all sorts of riff raff were about it Naples. So we all stayed in!

Traffic there was a nightmare. The worst we had seen during our trip. Everyone just seemed to do their own thing. And, the people on the little motor scooters and motorcycles were the worst!!!  We saw accidents many times. And many close calls as well.  We were not sad to leave Naples behind.
